V8 Supercars larrikin, David Reynolds will be joining the 2024 Repco Bathurst 12 Hour line-up, running under GruppeM Racing; with this year set to mark the veteran’s eighth 12 Hour start.
The 2017 Supercar Bathurst Champion will be sharing the seat with Maro Engel and Felipe Fraga in a Mercedes AMG GT3, who narrowly missed a maiden victory at last year’s event.
Although Reynolds is no newcomer to the Bathurst 12 Hour, this will be the first year that he’ll be considered the third ranked ‘pro’ driver; with Mercedes-AMG this year entering a pool of 19 factory GT drivers joining the ‘Expert’ tier.
“I’m really looking forward to the (Bathurst)12 Hour,” said Reynolds.
“It’s always a lot of fun! These cars are mega to drive.
“I’ve never really been in a full ‘pro’ car entry, I’ve always been in an outright and competed in the Pro-Am race. This year it’ll be a different vibe and feeling, so I’m feeling really refreshed and ready to go.
“I haven’t driven with either Maro or Felipe before, but I’ve known Maro from back when he drove for Erebus in 2013 and have stayed in contact with him ever since. He (Maro) text me over the Christmas break and asked me to join him for the 12 Hour and of course I was super keen! There was no way I was giving up this opportunity.
“I have a lot of respect for Maro and Felipe. I plan to learn a lot from them both, they have a wealth of knowledge and experience.”
GruppeM Racing are coming off the back of a victory at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi in the Lenovo Gulf 12 Hour race and are set to be a strong contender at this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour.
The Repco Bathurst 12 Hour kicks off on Friday 16 February.
